On June 3rd and June 4th, 2019 bibliographers and book historians will gather at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Vancouver, British Columbia to explore how text in all its forms has and is conveying the conversations of Canadians, how books have inspired conversations, and how the role and form of the book is evolving as text appears in new mediums and online readers interact with text in different ways. Tremaine Medal 2018: Call for Nominations

The Awards Committee invites nominations for the Marie Tremaine Medal, offered by the Bibliographical Society of Canada (BSC) for outstanding service to Canadian bibliography and for distinguished publication in either English or French in that field. 2019 Emerging Scholar Prize – Call for applications

The Bibliographical Society of Canada (BSC) invites applications for the Emerging Scholar Prize. The Prize promotes the work of a researcher who is beginning a career in the fields of book history and bibliography broadly defined, including a study of the creation, production, publication, distribution, transmission, history, and uses of printed books, manuscripts, or electronic texts. Festschrift for William F. E. Morley and Francess Halpenny

PBSC is seeking material to commemorate the life and work of Bill Morley and Francess Halpenny, who both died in December 2017 at the respective ages of 97 and 98. Their presence is greatly missed but their contributions to the literary life of Canada, and to their own universities — Queen’s University and the University of Toronto — will long be remembered.

Call for Papers: Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada (PBSC)

Cover - Vol 55, No 1 (2017) Papers of The Bibliographical Society of CanadaSince 1962, Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada has published important historical studies on the sociality and materiality of texts — including authorship, printing, binding, publishing, piracy, reading, education, and the book trade — in Canada and the world. A bilingual scholarly community has coalesced around PBSC, uniting literary critics, historians, librarians, booksellers, small-press printers, and students of English, French, history, sociology, library science, information science, bibliography, public policy, and other disciplines.

PBSC is seeking essays for several upcoming special issues — as well as non-theme-related papers — from scholars of any nationality on any aspect of book studies or book culture.

Congratulating the BSC-SbC Emerging Scholar 2018

The Bibliographical Society of Canada (BSC) is pleased to announce that Laura Gerlitz, a student in the third year of the Master of Library and Information Studies and Master of Arts in Humanities Computing program at the University of Alberta, has been selected as the recipient of the Emerging Scholar Prize.
Her paper, “‘How to Sell a Harlequin: Bringing the Digital Humanities into Reader’s Advisory,” will be presented at the BSC’s annual conference in May 2018.
